Hardware
Below is a list of hardware which has been tested in our lab. Note that this page is never finished! All new hardware coming to our lab will be added to this page.

Description of the motherboards:
- Intel D201GLY
The Intel D201GLY or “Little Valley” as it's codenamed, is Intel's first step into the low power consumption market. It is also their first mini ITX board. It's a board designed for office use, with only a tv out, no SATA connections and a SIS chipset. It's biggest advantage is the price. $75,- for a board with CPU is cheap.
- VIA EPIA LN10000E
This is a board from VIA, with a VIA Eden 1 Ghz CPU included. It's a bit more expensive than the Intel board, but it's fanless, making it an ideal candidate for classrooms
- Intel D945GCL
This is the first board of Intel with the Atom CPU on it. This board is codenamed “Little Falls”. It does have a SATA connection, they ditched the SIS chipset for an Intel 945 chipset. The CPU uses only 2.5 Watts. The chipset however, uses 20 Watts! It needs a fan for that, while the CPU only needs a heatsink.
- ECM-3711
This is a nano ITX board. It has the same Northbridge chipset as the VIA EPIA LN10000E and the same CPU. It's designed for use in embedded devices (hence two network ports!). It is fanless and very small. It comes at quite a price though!
- ECM-LX800-A1R
Also a nano ITX board, around the same price as the ECM-3711. Also fanless, but thisone is equipped with an AMD geode CPU and chipset
- Zonbu
The Zonbu is a small computer. Equipped with a fanless VIA C7 1.2 Ghz CPU and a VIA CN700 chipset, it has many similarities with the VIA EPIA LN10000E. The machine is sold with an online storage subscription, for which you pay monthly. The machine itself can be bought without subscription, for $300,-. This is the only Solid State Disk machine the Locolab has so far, with a 4 GB CF card.
- Ebox 4300
This is also a small computer. It has a fanless VIA C3 500 Mhz CPU and a 1.8” 80 GB SATA disk. It is very, very small. You could almost carry it in your pocket!
Power supplies
Hard disks
We test two harddisks, mainly to see the difference between 1.8” drives and 3.5” drives. As of yet, we don't have solid state drives, though we plan to test those soon.
- Toshiba MK8034GSX 2.5” SATA 80GB 5400 RPM 8m, $80,-
- Samsung SP0842N 3.5” ATA 80GB 7200 RPM, $50,-
