Deliverables

As the Locolab is a research project with many different aspects, there will be different outputs, or deliverables. These are presented on this page. If you want a specific report please add it to this page!

General deliverables

  • The first deliverable is this wiki. All results, tests and outcomes will be in this wiki. This means that the wiki is an ever changing working document. It not only allows other interested parties an insight in the actual situation and the latest results , it also allows them the actively participate by adding their own findings to the wiki!
  • A mailinglist will be created to discuss all aspects of low cost computing for education

In addition to the (sometimes technical) information on this wiki, the two phases of the project (see the planning page for more on the planning) will produce reports for both technical and non-technical audiences.

Phase I Hardware deliverables

The hardware research will result in three different reports:

  1. Test description: Technical description of hardware tests, including explanations and rationales

This report will include all the tests we are performing on the hardware. It will be a technical and detailed report, which will form the basis for a standardised testing method for computers for education. It allows for replication of the tests performed.

  1. Test results: Technical report on the results of hardware tests

This report contains all the results of the testing of hardware. It will be highly technical in nature. It will have the results on costs, performance and power consumption.

  1. “What should I buy guide”: A translation of the technical results to an answer to the question: “What kind of hardware should I buy in a low power consumption environment?”

This guide will be an easy accessible document where the results of the testing are translated into a buying guide for low cost hardware for education. Three factors will be described in this document: Costs, suitability for education and performance. For each factor a classification will be made of the tested hardware in terms of “not usable” “usable” “very good” and so on. It allows the reader to select hardware based on their needs.

Phase II Software deliverables

Every scenario which is developed in the Locolab will have several reports attached to it:

  • Detailed description
  • Installation manuals
  • Deployment guides

Furthermore all the results of both the hardware phase as the software phase will be included in the Masterplan for ICT in education.
