There are 2 things which are to be tested in the Locolab: Hardware and Software. Therefor, the planning has been split up into two phases: The hardware phase and the software phase. This does not mean that there will be no hardware tested in the software phase. New hardware is coming out all the time and will be tested accordingly.

In this phase, all hardware related tests will be performed in the Locolab. For an overview of all hardware related matters, like tests performed and results of these tests, please go to the hardware page. The hardware phase consists of the following elements:

1. Acquisition: Getting hardware to the lab
2. Test design: Design and test all the tests
3. The actual testing: Carrying out the hardware tests
4. Reporting: Write up the reports as stipulated in the deliverables page

1 and 2 have been completed already. 3 has been started in April and will be finished by the end of May 2008. 4 has just been started (beginning of May 2008) and the reports are expected halfway June 2008.

Hardware is not complete without some software on it to run it. The software research phase will focus on the software environment as well as educational software running in this environment. In order to test this correctly, different scenario's will be created. These scenario's include different hard- and software combinations. Examples include Linux deployments, Windows XP deployments and Terminal Server and Thin Client solutions. These scenario's will be tested by the Open Schools Program in pilot projects. The following elements can be distinguished in phase II:

1. Research on different software scenario's
2. Testing of different software scenario's in the lab
3. Reporting on scenario's (please refer to the deliverables page for more info)
4. Integration of the results in the masterplan

Phase II.1 will take place in June 2008 Phase II.2 will take place in the period June-August 2008 Phase II.3 will take place in July-September 2008 Phase II.4 will be completed at the end of September 2008.
